MAMAMAPAMBO BOUTIQUE HOTEL
THE LUXURY OF SEMPLICITY
Located on the south-est coast of Zanzibar, Mamamapambo is an award-winning boutique hotel, on the white beach of Jambiani and comprised of six unique rooms, it’s a perfect haven for pure escapism.

MAMAMAPAMBO means “mother ornament”; this is the philosophy that animates our intimate, exclusive Boutique Hotel, which looks out onto the endless, uncontaminated Jambiani beach.

Our attention to detail is absolute and everything here highlights the free spirit of Zanzibar – from the large, characteristic “makuti” roof to the garden in the interior courtyard, from the original furnishings to objects we’ve picked up during our travels, to our especial care in using only natural materials wherever possible.

The sinuous roof shapes and the large openings through which you can capture an ever-changing, ever-surprising landscape make this place truly unique, the perfect haven for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation, far from an invasive, frenetic civilization and in close contact with local customs and traditions.

Our choice of limiting the number of rooms to 6 allows us to provide our guests with the right degree of privacy and an attentive service aimed at satisfying their every need.

HIGHLIGHTS
JAMBIANI

Jambiani is a long village stretching over several kilometres on a stunning stretch of coastline and one of the best places on the island to gain an insight into local life. The village itself (actually several villages grouped together as Jambiani) is a sunbaked collection of palm-thatch huts and the sea is an ethereal shade of turquoise – even by Zanzibar standards – dotted with fishing boats, while on the beach women tend seaweed farms.

BEACH LIFE

Walk up and down the pristine beaches, enjoying the white sand and turquoise waters. As in other beaches on the eastern coast, the tide goes out very far. There are many beautiful seashells to gather, but please do not remove them from the beach as they provide homes for various sea creatures.  Take a cultural tour through the village. Visit the local shops and workshops, meet the locals, go fishing with the men or go collecting seaweed with the women and children.

KUZA CAVES

Kuza Cave is a geological formation with a long, fascinating history. The Jambiani area, where the cave is located, was and still is characterized by countless underground rivers that snake beneath a relatively flat landscape. Some 250,000 years ago, the constant erosion of these underground rivers flowing between two hard layers of limestone caused the upper layer to weaken and buckle. From this collapse, Kuza Cave was born. Remarkably pristine pools, some more than eight feet deep, line the cave’s perimeter. The stillness of the water reflects a backdrop of stalagmites and stalactites, making it difficult to discern where the water ends and the cave wall begins.

SAIL & FISHING

Take a trip on a dhow (small wooden sailboat). You can just go for a sail or go out to the coral reef and snorkel. It is still possible to see many types of coral, starfish, sea urchins, tropical fish, and sometimes octopuses. If you want to try the handline fishing you can go out fishing with our captain and learn the techniques used by the locals.

KITE

This location has many things to offer for your vacation or trip. A place with big waves and flat water, plenty of space and surprisingly uncrowded! Just 7 km from the busy Paje point.
The blast begins in mid-June. However, for the most reliable periods of July, August and January, February. The wind will be the right side of the shore. 30 degrees in winter and around 35+ degrees in summer. With water temperatures remaining around 25/26 degrees in winter and 27-29 degrees in summer!
Several schools nearby help beginners or those who want to experience this sport.

CHILL OUT

MAMAMAPAMBO is ideally located directly on the beach of Jambiani, only a few steps separate our lush garden from the Indian Ocean. You will be able to see closely how a small fishing village lives. Our terrace on the first floor is the ideal place to relax and enjoy this wonderful show. Our tropical garden is equipped with sun beds, read a book or drink a cocktail rocked by the rustle of the palm trees is priceless and to finish the day you can have a massage in the privacy of your room, just book a few hours in advance.
